Tooth Colored Fillings
Tooth Colored Filling
Sometimes referred to as bonding or composite. Resin is a tooth colored filling that can be placed onto your tooth to improve its appearance. The filling “bonds” with your teeth, and because it comes in a variety of tooth-colored shades it closely matches the appearance of your natural teeth.
A resin filling is a way to restore a tooth damaged by decay back to its normal function and shape. If you have a tooth that requires a filling, the dentist will first remove the decayed tooth material, clean the affected area, and then fill the cleaned-out cavity with the filling material. A filling also helps prevent further decay by closing off any cracks or spaces where bacteria can enter. Resin can be used for fillings instead of amalgam. Many patients prefer bonded fillings because the white color is much less noticeable than the silver amalgam fillings. Resin fillings can be used on front and back teeth depending on the location and extent of tooth decay.
Using tooth colored resin for aesthetic purposes is less expensive than other cosmetic treatments and usually can be completed in one visit to our office. However, bonding can stain and is easier to break than other cosmetic treatments such as porcelain veneers. If it does break or chip, tell your doctor. The bonding can generally be easily patched or repaired in one visit.
